Small robots can become an important tool in the efforts to increase productivity and sustainability of agriculture.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, technology is everywhere in agriculture, and it is becoming increasingly intelligent. Intelligent scarecrows and drones that can spot birds and weeds in the fields and help to protect wildlife are on the way, and one of the latest technology initiatives is the use of small robots in the fields.<\/p>\n

Improves the environment and contributes with raw material for bio-production<\/strong><\/p>\n

The business development project, GrassBots, that among others includes researchers from Aarhus University and The University of Southern Denmark and a number of commercial partners, has developed a platform of small and light agricultural robots able to harvest lowlands, for example river valleys, where traditional agricultural machinery must give up. The biomass from such areas may play a significant role in the future bio-based society. In the river valleys and other marginal areas the harvest of perennial crops may improve the environment, while providing raw materials for various types of bio-production.<\/p>\n

More machines \u2013 One operator<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to the low weight of the robots, advanced navigation software, route planning and positioning systems allow that the machines can operate semi-autonomously, thereby making it possible for a single farmer to supervise and manage up to a handful of machines with different functions in the field. This will improve the productivity, reduce soil compaction and fuel consumption.<\/p>\n

The GrassBots robot consists of a Lynex tool carrier, a Kongskilde mower and a Conpleks Robotech Controller.<\/p>\n

Partners<\/strong><\/p>\n

The GrassBots project includes beyond Aarhus University and The University of Southern Denmark, also Kongskilde Industries, Lynex , Conpleks Innovation, Bertelsen Design and Agro Business Park as partners. In addition to the project partner\u2019s own funding, the Central Denmark Region has supported the project through business development program \u201cBiomass for Energy\u201d.<\/p>\n

At Agromek 2014, which takes place from 25th \u2013 28th November in Herning , it is possible to see the GrassBots robot machine at the Biocluster.dk\u2019s booth (D3208).
