Panel debate about data-driven business development

Every year, Business Region MidtVest hosts a Manufacturing Festival and gathers the most skilled people within digitalization. This year’s Manufacturing Festival presented a panel debate about data-driven business development.

Together with three other representatives from locale companies, who also uses data to a large extend, Conpleks was asked to participate in the panel debate. Tom Simonsen, CEO, represented Conpleks. The panel debate was facilitated by Preben Rokkjær, Marketing Manager at FC Midtjylland, who began by describing data usage in modern soccer.

Retaining customers

The past year, FC Midtjylland has changed the use of data significantly. Before, the club focused on player data, especially in connection with buying new players. Today the data is mostly used for a special app made for season ticket holders in order to see all imaginable and unimaginable data about matches and players. The idea for the app arose during Corona, as the fans couldn’t go to the stadium, and the club was afraid not to be able to retain their customers.

– Data has been a substantial focus area in our work for growing FC Midtjylland as a business. As the soccer players’ data is constantly evaluated, and the fans’ behavior is mapped, FC Midtjylland has a large information pool to strengthen the business, qualify decisions and grow the economy, says Preben Rokkjær.

Different data, same value

Despite the fact that the four represented companies work with very different datasets, the panelists agreed that data collection creates great value in some very important areas. More specifically, an adequate digital foundation can help to display the company in a larger context, with which the management can be at the forefront of the development. This means that data can be the basis for timely development of new products and building necessary competencies, as well as contributing to the vision for the future.

Besides Tom Simonsen, the panelists included Per Hessellund Lauritsen, Head of Research at Siemens Gamesa and Chairman of the Board at AUHE Midtvest´s Support Fund, Claus Riekehr Møller, CEO at Cadpeople and Board member at DI Digital, and Christian Holmgaard Mossing, Vice President Data, Analytics and Planning at Niras and Board member in GEOFORUM.

Business owners, researchers, students and digital experts from all over the Nordic region gather for the Manufacturing Festival to share knowledge about digitalization and thus get inspiration to take home. This is the fourth year in a row that Business Region MidtVest is hosting the Manufacturing Festival.
